"Dude you're so deep!?!1"

There's such an emphasis on being deep these days that aspiring "artists" will do literally anything to seem mature or sophisticated just because they're terrified of facing the fact that they may not actually have anything groundbreaking to say.

Though it's certainly true that lots of fantastic art comes as a response to pain, heartbreak, and all that angsty stuff, It can also be said that a substantial portion of the most enjoyable art comes from the desire of the artist to simply have some fun. Regardless of how you want to experience it, art is largely the presentation of a result rather than a process. Contrarily, one could argue that art is the process of expression and the result is only a fraction of the artist's intent but what I'm arguing is that; intent alone has very little to do with how compelling the artistic result is. Passion is what makes art compelling.

If more artists focus on what they're already passionate about rather than what they think they should be, They'll find making their art to be far less stressful and the result will likely be far more compelling.

In conclusion, maybe you don't actually have anything groundbreaking or "deep" to say with your art (at least I certainly don't think I do). But so what? As long as you feel passionate about what you do, and you put in the work to refine it, your art can be perfectly compelling as it is, and with who you already are as a person rather than who you wish to be.
